Who we are

Philothea Missionary Society is a public association in the Church consisting of priests, religious sisters, lay missionaries (consecrated and non-consecrated), Jesus Youth, Friends of Philothea, St. Joseph Ministry, St. Rita Ministry, St, Jane de Chantal Ministry and other Associates.

Following the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales, Philothea Missionary Society is founded in Kenya by - Rev. Fr. George Kocholickal and Rev. Sr. Florence Philothea Kabbalah, with His Lordship Rt. Rev. Maurice MuhatiaMakumba as the Patron Bishop.

Our Charism

The special charism of the Philothea Missionary Society is expressed primarily through the practice of two virtues: “Love and Holiness” lived in gentleness. Our motto is “Love and love alone is the hallmark of our spirituality” – St. Francis de sales

Our Apostolates

We are here for the Christian formation, education and transformation of Christ Faithful. Philothea means “Lover of God,” and is the title that St Francis de Sales used to refer to all Christian faithful. We carry out our mission through our various apostolates:

  • Active and Contemplative life
  • Faith Formation programmes
  • Tertiary Education
  • Catechetical programmes
  • Marriage and Family life programmes (For priests, Catechists and couples)
  • Seminars & Retreats (for youth and adults)
  • Bible Studies
  • Vocation promotion
  • Counselling services
  • Publications
  • Any other service that meets the needs of Church in our times

Vocation Promotion

“The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to do his harvesting” (Lk 10:2). If you wish to be part of the Mission by sharing in the work of the formation of the laity please write to us.

    Our Mission

    Our mission and vision is to promote Love of God and Love of neighbour through faith formation programmes based on Scripture, Church Doctrines, Catechism of the Catholic Church, and St. Francis de Sales’ writings for Christian growth. Guided by the Scriptural teaching, “God is Love, and everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God” (1Jn. 4:7) and our Mother’s cry, “They have no wine” (John 2:3), every Philothea lives the vocation to love God and comes to the aid of those in need.

    Our Vision

    Christian Men and Women serving God in their various states of life within the Church’s ministerial apostolate to the Family, Youth , Professionals, Catechetical and Pastoral care to the Sick require a reflective study of Church Doctrine, Scripture, Catechesis, Moral and Social Doctrines and Spirituality. The fundamental task is to guide all students to their interior and exterior.
